Frequently asked Question

Q: What distinguishes Borale soaps from the other soaps found on the market?

A: What sets Borale apart is first and foremost its manufacturing method. By using the traditional fully boiled process in a classic open kettle, rarely used nowadays because of its complexity, we obtain a soap of superior quality, qualified as Extra Pure. Moreover, this soap lasts longer than soaps made using the other popular methods. Over the years, our master soap maker has developed his own style by combining traditional methods with modern innovations, to produce exceptional soaps.

In addition, Borale is committed to only use healthy, natural and superior ingredients, ensuring product quality and peace of mind for the entire family. Since Borale does not add any synthetic additives or perfumes to its preparation, it is essential oils, extracted by steam distillation, that give the soaps their unique essences.

Finally, to respect its environmental and eco-responsibility values, Borale favours raw materials from Canadian agriculture, uses the best vegetable oils and offers simple and recyclable packaging. Our soap bars are simply wrapped in paper and cardboard and our durable bottles are designed to be refilled multiple times.

Q: How are Borale soaps made?

A: Borale soaps are made according to the traditional fully boiled process in a classic open kettle, a time-consuming and laborious process that produces a superior quality soap called Extra Pure. This type of soap results from the saponification (a chemical reaction that forms the soap) of a mixture of vegetable oils using an alkali (electrolyzed sea salt). It is produced following four historical steps: producing a paste (cooking), salting out (removal of impurities), washing, and fitting. Once the soap paste has cooled and dried, then the essential oils are added, maintaining their integrity and natural characteristics. This whole process involves continued work over several weeks.

Borale also refer to its soaps as naturally raw, because they are composed of less than six ingredients, all natural. Borale soaps contain absolutely no additives, anti-limescale products, fillers, preservatives, dyes or synthetic perfumes.

It is a complex and expensive process, but it is the only one that can lead to the production of an Extra Pure soap of superior quality.

Q: What is a master soap maker?

A: A master soap maker is a craftsperson who transforms oils and fats into Extra Pure soap using the traditional method. The master soap maker recognizes the subtleties of the raw materials they use and the characteristics of the products they make, conforming to the art of saponification. It is an art that requires patience and passion.

Q: Is it true that Borale soaps last longer than most other soaps?

A: Yes. Borale soaps last very long, mainly because of its purity. Since the paste is rinsed of its impurities, the concentration of “real soap” is higher and therefore, the soap melts less quickly. On the contrary, a soap altered with fillers will generally have a shorter shelf life, in addition to changing its cleaning qualities.

It should also be noted that the moisture content of the soap is carefully adjusted, which has a great impact on its durability, without compromising its smoothness and ability to foam.

You should know that to maximize the shelf life of a soap, it must be dried after each use.

Q: What uses can I make of Borale soaps?

A: Borale soaps are extremely versatile. They are not only intended for washing the body! They are also suitable for facial and hair care, as well as shaving due to their creamy and silky texture.

The same is true of the multipurpose Black Soap, which will replace most of your everyday household products. It can be used for almost any part of home cleaning. It is a simple, healthy and effective solution to keep your home clean and green.

Q: What ingredients are Borale soaps made of?

A: For Borale, offering exceptional products starts with a selection of the best raw materials and the highest quality ingredients. Our Extra Pure soaps contain only the necessary ingredients: saponified vegetable oils (sodium vegetable oils), water, glycerin (resulting from the saponification of oils), salt and lemon juice (a natural preservative).

The only addition? Pure essential oils that transport you directly to the heart of the boreal forest.

Q: Are Borale soaps eco-friendly?

A: Yes! For Borale, it is essential to take care of the surrounding natural resources, to work in an environmentally friendly way and to favour natural, recyclable or reusable materials. We use eco-responsible alternatives and our products are biodegradable and safe for the environment.

It is our duty to take great care of nature and our environment and to raise awareness among our partners and collaborators. We advocate for moderate and responsible consumption, based on informed choices, which contributes to a better understanding of today’s issues.

This approach, favoured by Borale, plays a major role in the team’s daily thinking and decision-making.

Q: Are Borale soaps suitable for sensitive skin and for children?

A: Yes! Borale soaps are suitable for all ages and skin types, even the most sensitive and delicate. Since they are composed of only healthy and natural ingredients, all Borale soaps are non-irritating and hypoallergenic, and have been tested under dermatological control. They also help to preserve the skin’s natural moisture by respecting its pH. Borale only manufactures Extra Pure soaps that contain no dyes, perfumes or synthetic additives.

Q: Are Borale soaps moisturizing?

A: Yes and no. In fact, it is important to understand that the job of a soap is not to moisturize the skin, but rather … to clean it! However, a good soap should clean gently and effectively, while respecting the skin’s hydrolipidic film (protective barrier). As a result, the skin’s natural moisture is more respected and much less compromised. Borale Extra Pure soap therefore helps to maintain natural hydration and a balanced pH.

Q: What are the benefits of Borale soaps?

A: The benefits are multiple: Borale soaps are gentle, non-irritating, hypoallergenic and, above all, suitable for all ages and skin types. They also help to maintain the skin’s natural moisture by respecting its hydrolipidic film (protective barrier). Made with healthy and natural ingredients, the soaps are also suitable for problematic skins, making them worry free.

Q: What does Extra Pure 72% oil stand for?

A: It is a seal of authenticity with historical roots, which guarantees the purity and quality of the soap obtained by the traditional fully boiled process. To display this seal, the soap must contain the minimum threshold of fatty acids (pure soap paste), i.e. 72% oil.

Extra Pure means that the soap does not contain any fillers or impurities.

But let’s be cautious: not being legally protected, this name can be used without being true. Generally, it is enough to read the list of ingredients and ask questions to the manufacturer to determine the legitimacy of a soap.

Q: Do you offer to refill liquid soap containers?

A: Yes! We will be happy to fill your empty containers when you come to the Factory during our opening hours. To extend the life of our containers, they have been designed to be durable and allow multiple refills. However, it is important to note that we reserve the right to refuse to fill poorly maintained or inappropriate containers.
